March Madness!

Whew February 2013 is GONNNEEEE! I am not sure where the time went but I am grateful for a brand new month! My February was a bit erratic food and exercise wise. I started strong with Paleo but around PMS/TOM time I went off track and really didn't get back on track consistently. Thank God February is a short month!!! :-)

I did get back to spinning on Monday and had a good class!! I forgot why I love spinning! I need to make that a regular class for me!  Another Soror was in the gym with her Mom she is making great progress her Lent "take up" was to exercise every day for 40 days! Awesome! I talked her into spinning and she did half the class and that was after doing half of Body Attack! She is going stronggggg she told me how much I inspired her and I told her its an ongoing process. There is no end date. I guess that may have sounded anti climatic but its your health and its the truth. I don't think I got that back in 2010 and that's how the weight came back so quickly.

I am reading the book The Circle Maker and today I read about Daniel 1:8 and the author suggested you make a resolution to not defile yourself. He wasn't talking about food but it applies. I need to wake up with that on my mind. To not use food in the wrong way. I need to pray, journal, exercise, mediate, get a manicure, call a friend, take a walk...food is not the answer if hunger isn't the problem!

I was out with my Man-friend (See Sex and the City episode on that term lol) and he was showing me some pictures of himself and his family so I did the same. He asked me to send him some of the pictures and I did and one was from the fall in my St John sweater and he looked shocked he asked if it was recent. I said yeah the Fall and he looked surprised lol but I am keenly aware now every 7-10 pounds makes a dramatic difference... he ain't said nothing (like any good man would he kept quiet lol) but I knew what his eyes were saying lol It made me think about getting my house in back in order... 35 pounds!!!! Its got to go!!!

Oh by way of an update: Yes we made it "official" we go together lol we have been having a really, really, really great time! We have great conversations, there's great chemistry, he's involved in church, likes to travel, is funny as heck, and is respectful to me and open to new things, open car doors, holds hands, and he dresses nicely... Most of all he does what he says he will do. I think as women we take little things for granted ...maybe that's not the right word but for example the last guy I dated had a habit of saying I'll call you back and wouldn't I never got upset b/c if we were on the phone at 9:30pm I was usually about to go to sleep anyway. But don't say you are going to do something and not do it and I think it was a snowball effect no call back then it became easier to not keep other commitments. I just don't know why people make dating so hard! I am a reasonable person so if something comes up its ok but my man-friend is really..stubborn... maybe consistent is a better word...that way if he says he is going to do something he will do it. Now he may fall asleep in the movie theater and start snoring and embarrassing me lol but he wasn't going to not take me. That matters. And I don't think I realized how much until I saw someone making the sacrifice to keep his commitments. If all dating was this easy the whole self help and  relationship counseling market would fold. LOL I don't have unreasonable standards, while they may be high they are not ridiculous and its just so refreshing to meet someone like him. Timing and chemistry has been my mantra so I find myself just smiling at random times. It feels great! Last night we tried a new restaurant I always see it but I've never eaten there. Its called Cuba de Ayer the food was good! He is going there for a trip in December so i thought he would get a kick out of it!

Arroz con pollo (Yellow rice with chicken) and plaintains oh and white sangria :-)

I didn't eat all the rice it was wayyyy too much! The place was small but packed! His mijito was one of the best I ever had! It even had sugar cane in there! Afterwards we went to the musical Once on this Island that my friend directed. It was a nice production! The story line always touches me :-) Gotta love love!

So last night was the end of  a busy, busy month and this last week was all about Awards season for my sorority's Regional Conference. Whewwww! Now I have a committee I just didn't use them properly lol I will have to work on that! But we got some good books done and I am thinking good thoughts about this year's regional conference awards banquet yet again!! :-D

But now that, that is over and that excuse is gone I started this morning off strong first step was to set some March goals: (1) Drink at least 90 oz of water a day (EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS!!!!) (2) Exercise for at least 45 minutes 4 days a week! (3) Stick to Paleo plan but I am giving myself 1 non -Paleo meal and drink per week

I went to the cafeteria at work and had an all veggie omelet with 2 slices of bacon and I got a cup of honeydew and cantaloupe. I feel good about that! On the way in I had an orange and the small Trader Joe pack of almonds. I have 2 apples and a pear at work and I have salad and my Shrimp, butternut squash and plantian soup. I plan to hit the gym or do the treadmill at home today. Anddd I am treating myself to new sneakers!  Its March Spring is almost here!!! I think Paleo is a great plan and I will stick with it but i already know weight loss only works for me IF I workout and exercise. Mostly bcause I eat a lot so i need to off set that while working on Daniel 1:8!!!

Will keep you posted on my March Madness Goals!!!

"I can resist anything except temptation."~ Oscar Wilde

Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with a friend about eating out and she has sooooo much more faith in me than I have in myself lol she made the wonderfully supportive point that I have overcome a lot in terms of my diet and exercise so I shouldn't deprive myself of going out (I was concerned about the whole dating and dieting thing)

She said I can do the right thing and make the right choices and if  I end up indulging I can get right back on the horse. I tried to explain to her eating is a slippery slope for me. But again she was a lot more supportive and encouraging than I was to myself. New guy..man he needs a code name...anyway he likes eating out and I am not opposed to eating out and trying new places and new things but I need more discipline.
Last night was a perfect example I went out with my sorors and we went to a local spot we all love the Artful Gourmet Bistro and I always have their lemon drop martini (ok or two) and their pasta dish called the  Michelangelo
Jumbo shrimp in vodka cream sauce with mushrooms and sundried tomatoes tossed with rigatoni pasta. It is a wonderful as it sounds! See picture below!
Artful's Michelangelo Yummm
Well by the time the night was all said and done I had the pasta, 2 lemondrop martinis and a slice of cake with a scoop of ice cream! :-(

As  Oscar Wilde wisely confessed ~ "I can resist anything except temptation."

That's why I keep my butt home when I am trying to go hard because I jump feet first and don't even think twice! Other folks had salads with lean meat! That's what I should have had! Some had A drink NOT 2! That's what I should have done! Some people did not have dessert! AGAIN that's what I should have done! SMH

What can I say... It bes like that sometimes!

Today's a new day! I did not get the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal I was thinking hard about having or the apple stuffed pastry they sell at work... so that's this morning's victory! I'll take it!

The weekend will be a little crazy I want to hit the gym, see new guy, go to a Soror's day party, I have an AKA matter on Sunday, and I still need to try and get in hot yoga again oh yeah and sleep!

I did cook and I have another Paleo post to share soon! This week I made jerk chicken breast, cabbage and eggplant, sweet sausage and peppers and onions, coconut crusted tapalia, and I made a big pot full of chicken and cilantro soup! Good stuff! I will check back soon! Have a great weekend!!

As promised...Paleo! part 1

I am way behind on this post and I am sorry! I have gotten so many emails and text messages about Paleo and the things I am eating! I been trying my best to post pictures on facebook and keep notes in my blackberry until I had a free moment to get this done. I really don't have a free moment but I am making a free moment b/c I really love Paleo! And I want to spread the word!

Ok for a quick review!

What is Paleo?
Paleo is short for Paleolithic, and the premise of a Paleo diet centers around the idea that our bodies have not adapted sufficiently to eating foods that weren’t available to us 10,000 years ago. It is thought that more than 70% of food consumed today was never available in Paleolithic times.  We put so much processed food into our bodies; most which us unhealthy.

A Paleo diet involves eating meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, little starch, some fruit and no sugar.  It means no grains, legumes, dairy or alcohol.  It means staying away from all processed foods. It means eating as our hunter-gathers ancestors did.

It immediately sounded good to me and my last post I discussed that. Again if I was a good blogger I'd have dropped the link but yall know how I do lol before I go into the recipes and pictures I will talk about the top 3 challenges I am facing:

1. Processed food is EVERYWHERE! Just about any grab and go snack I used to eat was processed: WW snacks, protein bars, protein shakes, baked chips,etc...all processed! Those have always been my go-to items. Not any more. On the positive side using fruits and veggies as snacks is more Weight Watchers friendly because they are 0 points. I am also using nuts and trail mix these however I am overdoing! But still better than processed food! I was down 1 pound per Weight Watcher weigh ins last week. Overall it is is closer to 5 pounds. We'll see this week.

2. Planning is critical. This is not a wing it type of plan. You have to think about what you want to eat for the week. Because you gotta cook! I can be honest this has not been that much of a challenge for me because I am making it a priority and I am using the weekends and my work from home day to cook. But it is time and labor intensive after shopping, prepping, cooking, there is the cleaning! My cleaners only come every 2 weeks so the dishes cant sit around that long lol well they can..but it wouldn't be right. I have invested in a number of foil pans and foil paper and that has helped with that.

3. You have to find balance. Dating on paleo has made me THAT girl...So new guy (we'll find a  better code name soon lol) Our first date I had a salad SMALL with blackened chicken and I was anxious about even having that...lol...second date we went bowling I refused to eat b/c there's nothing Paleo friendly in a bowling alley its pizza, chicken fingers, fries...but its never good when a new guy starts off with "Well I know your answer is no but would you like something..." insert side eye..from him lol but we had a good time even when I threw the bowling ball so hard it hopped into the next lane and a not so happy pre-teen's bowling score was the victim of my poor aim lol Best. Date. Moment. Ever. Thankfully I know how to laugh at myself (and others). I will let new guy know I will eat tomorrow... Ohh yes! There is a 3rd date and its tomorrow on Valentine's Day! He tried to be slick when he asked and me being so slow and really having not had a date of Valentine's day in a few years it went right over my head for a minute.

But we are going salsa dancing and I am really looking forward to it. So I may just take the night off Paleo and not be so rigid and enjoy myself. I am really digging him... he even agreed to try Bikram/Hot yoga this weekend! Good stuff new guy! :-)

Ok now for the food! First off my shopping list looks like this:

Meat
Steak, beef, chicken legs, thighs, 90% lean ground beef, 80/20 ground turkey, Trader Joe chicken sausage, and I discovered Italian seasoned ground turkey!

Seafood
Steamed shrimp, frozen shrimp, salmon, and talipia

Fruits
apples, pears, grapefruits, oranges, bananas, strawberries, melons, and blueberries

Veggies
Cabbage, carrots, spinach, salad, eggplant, butternut squash, zucchini, Chinese squash, onions, and cucumbers

Spices
Curry, black pepper, sea salt, cumin, jerk, onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, and cinnamon. By the way spices have calories! YES I KNOWWWW!!! Crazy!

I got lots of ideas from people everywhere most I modified in some way but where I can recall I will post the link to that page.

Breakfast idea:

{A soror posted about her egg muffin and it piqued my interest she hipped me to the power of pintrest and who knew if you double clicked the pictures more info came out? I didn't! What a world that has opened up for me food wise! Paleo a plenty!}

Egg muffins
6 eggs or 12 eggs
Any add ins you'd like I used onion, spinach, bacon, sausage, etc.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease 6/12 muffin cups, or line with paper muffin liners.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and stir in sausage; cook and stir until sausage is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink, 10 to 15 minutes; drain.
  3. Beat eggs in a large bowl. Stir in onion, green pepper, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix in items Spoon by 1/3 cupfuls into muffin cups.
  4. Bake in preheated oven until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.

I bought a Rachel Ray muffin pan! It worked well I went looking for a silicon one but this was perfect

yeahhh so 1/3rd of the way to the top
Quick fix!
Midway point as you can see some of them are coming up looking puffy
Final product! I only had 2.

Review:
Upside these are really easy to make. They taste good and are very filling. I made different kinds and that kept it interesting. I really didnt want one after the third day lol I kinda got over the novelty. I will make it for a potluck brunch I am going to this weekend though. My advice if you get bored easy just make a few at a time. Be creative. And no cheese if you are on Paleo. Its a little elss than a egg so its about 50-60 calories per muffin.

Aside from this I been doing boiled eggs, trial mix, fruit, and occassionally I have had leftovers anything from salmon, to eggplant, to steak! So don't feel stuck on "breakfast food" in term so Paleo!

Lunch/Dinner option

Salads are my friend! I just mix it up!

Lemonpepper salmon with pears over spinach

Bagged salad with english cucumbers and steamed shirmp bought the shrimp at the store and peeled them

Paleo Lunch on the go- Spinach, carrots, cucumbers, alpha sprouts, tomatoes, beets, mushroom, onions, raisin, sunflower seed *gasp for a breath* grilled chicken salad! Adding herb olive oil and balsamic vinegar! Fruit for after in case I want something sweet!

Love this! Thanks UNOs!

Went to lunch with my Linesisters and had this dish so I came home and whipped up Chimichurri Sauce UNOs has a hit with this!
Yum
1 cup parsley leaves (tightly packed italian, bunch stems removed)
1/4cup cilantro leaves (tightly packed)
2 garlic cloves
1/2tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper (dried)
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar

A new fave of mine! Thanks Soror Kenna

"Egg that Kenna Will Eat"
Ingredients: 1 green pepper (you can use red, yellow or orange if you want), half of an onion, Italian seasoned ground turkey (Jennie O brand, 93% lean or get whatever type of lean ground meat you want and season it yourself), spaghetti sauce (look for a sauce that has no added sugar, I’m using Classico’s Tomato and Basil as it is low calorie and sugar is not an ingredient), a firm medium sized eggplant, olive oil  and salt (this is optional). You will need an 8x8 pan or perhaps something like a 9x9. You can alternatively use a meatloaf/bread baking dish if you choose. A 13x9 would be too big.

Directions: chop up your onions and peppers in the size you desire, put a little olive oil in a skillet and sautéed the onions and peppers (I like mine slightly burnt looking), once the onions and pepper mixture is done, add the ground meat and cook until the pinkness is gone.  Drain off the excess oil as you don’t want that in your mixture. If you’re using ground turkey, you will have to keep breaking it up as it tends to “stay” together.  While you are waiting, wash and slice your eggplant into uniform circles. A mandolin would help you achieve this else use a good kitchen knife.  In another skillet or griddle, add some olive oil and lightly “toast” the eggplant on both sides. In other words, you just want to get the eggplant cooked a little bit on both sides. I actually want to see the skin blister a little bit. You can add salt to the eggplant if you want but this is optional. In a small sauce pot, pour about half the container of your spaghetti sauce in and heat it up. Take your baking pan (8x8 glass pan is what I use) and put a layer of eggplant on the bottom, then put in a layer of your meat mixture (you should use about half of the mixture for this layer), spread some sauce on it, next layer will be eggplant, then another layer of sauce, then the 2nd half of the meat mixture, then another layer of eggplant and the last layer will be sauce. You might need to heat up more sauce. Warning…don’t over sauce because in the oven, the sauce will break down and look watery but that’s ok.

Next step is to cover it in aluminum foil and bake it for 25-30 mins on 400 degrees.  When you pull it out, it will be hot and bubbling.  It will look watery but not to worry. Let it set for a while before eating. Honestly, this is something you probably should let set and eat the next day as it will be easy to cut into pieces that look like lasagna.  You will not miss the cheese and pasta..trust me..I will never lead you astray!

I am getting 6-7 servings out of my casserole and based on my calculations, the nutritional values should look like this for 6 servings:

175 calories, 7 grams of fat, 9 carbs (fiber content is reasonable in this dish with approximately 3-4 grams of fiber in a serving)

This dish is very satisfying but don’t eat too much because it does have some sodium in it. I am stretching mine out and getting 7 servings to cut down on that.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Well I have more but I guess I will work on a part 2!

Other helpful tips:

Cabbage is a good veggie to keep handy cooked or raw
Get lots of tupperware I went to the dollar store
Drink lots of water
Try to buy fresh fruits and veggies that are in season to keep cost low! If you are in the Baltimore area we have tons of produce markets and of course the JXF Farmers market.

Plaeo is totally doable! I am having fun trying new things! I will post the coconut ginger shrimp, the Paleo meatballs, cabbage bake, and my Italian Hodgepodge with butternut squash next time!

HAVE A HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Dating, Exercise, Paleo, & All That Jazz!

Whew January is already over! I am shocked as to how fast the month went by!! Seriously shocked! Its been a good but busy month as usual! :-) And of course I wouldn't have it any other way!

In fact I just got back froM the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival! No, not Jamaica, Queens lol Jamaica, Jamaica! What a great trip! Mary J Blige, John Legend, Monica, Dionne Warwick, and a host of other acts were there! I had suchhh a good time! Got lots of time in at the beach and just really relaxed and enjoyed myself I had a great workout with my cousin's personal trainer! I was sore up until yesterday! Ouch! Good stuff!!

My workouts have not been as consistent as they should be but this is the week to get it back on track! And here's the first step! The Paleo Diet! Have you heard of it? Well I didn't before last week or so myself!

In short the Paleo "Diet" the healthiest diet that mimics the diets of our caveman ancestors , includes meats, seafood, vegetables, fruits, and nuts.

A soror started posting information about it and sent a great document she put together and I was hooked! When I got back from Jamaica I was up 7 freakin pounds I knew not to full on panic b/c of traveling but I was not pleased about even SEEING the next weight zipcode
So I decided to start on it yesterday instead of the February 1st date a group of us agreed on!

I copied an pasted from WW so sorry the margins are a wee bit off but as you can see I was UNDER my daily points target! If you have been here any amount of time you knowwwww I struggled with staying ON POINT furthermore under! I was not hungry, no cravings, and I had room for a trail mix snack later on that night and STILL I was under!

Day 1 Looked like this:

I FEEL GREAT ABOUT PALEO!!!! On Weight Watchers fruit and veggies are zero points and since that's mostly what I had and I did not have my usual snacks of cheese, yogurt, or chips, etc my points were low AND I felt full! I am excited! Today is my day 2 and so far I have had:
Breakfast -Almonds
Eggplant casserole (yes for breakfast)
Snack: Trail mix
            Pistachios
Lunch: Homemade chicken and veggie soup
            Grapefruit

I have logged it into my WW tracker yet but at a quick glance its about 19 points? And usually by 3pm at work I am over my points and still hungry! Let me tell you I am sitting on swole right now! My goal is to drink close to a gallon a day of water and I been doing well! Someone posted something that jogged my memory about a trick I used to do. I keep water in my car so I would drink 16 oz on my way to work to give me a head start so I am back to doing that again!

I have found lots of resources and the trick will be to cook and plan my menu... Humm sounds familiar lol just like Weight Watchers! So its not super new, its not Atkins, its really just a new way of looking at how you treat your body. I think its a great idea and we all need to mix it up from time to time! So join me!  I will post some links below

Welll dating! I am back at it! New Guy #1 -I have a first date Friday night we have had a few good phone calls and he seems interesting likes to travel, in fact he is headed to Cuba with his son in December! Sweet right?! So we'll see how the chemistry works after that. He swims 3 days a week and seems to keep pretty busy socially going to games (he's a season ticket holder) and seems really committed to his career and his son's future. So I am looking forward to it!

Guy #2- We have exchanged a plethora of text messages and finally I had to say is there some reason we still have not had a conversation yet? That promoted him to call however I was at my Junior League meeting. I hung out afterwards with some friends and he texted sounding kinda salty that he guessed I was busy so he will try again tomorrow. To which I replied ok. He lives like 5 blocks from me that's how small the world is I just think he should have done more in terms of asking me out by now BUT I know how this game is played so he probably is getting his "starting five" together too lol so I aint mad! He is doing a workout routine Tap Out and he really likes it offered to give me a free copy...Now I dunno if he's trying to call me chunky or what *insert side eye* lol but I will take the free bee and see what happens. lol

So nothing really to report other than my hiatus is over... :-) I am claiming 2013 to be my year in terms of finding my soulmate so I am expecting great things in the next few months!

Pictures below of my adventures!! I'll keep a good diary of my Paleo food and do a whole Paleo post in about 2 weeks with the results and the tips you can use to learn more! :-)

Dying for Chocolate and hot buttery popcorn…

I am dying for some chocolate and hot buttery popcorn…

The nerve right? Been MIA for forever and my return post is a Foodie craving confession! Yup that’s about right!

So much has been going on I don’t even know where to begin! Well for the title! I was sitting here texting back and forth with my Mother and immediately I had the urge to go buy some chocolate! Identifying triggers has always been something I did AFTER the fact so I am glad that when the feeling hit I registered it and did some deep breathing!

I fought the urge earlier to get lasagna from the cafeteria and stick with my bagged lunch which was peppercorn chicken and my now Facebook famous cabbage bake!

I swear its like every minute it’s a battle! I know I shouldn’t claim that but that’s what it feels like...like a series of mini test and I am walking a tight rope.

I went back to Weight Watchers and I’ve actually gained weight lol I shouldn’t lol but I swear who does that?

I did better with getting back on track but its like 2 great steps forward then I backslide! Like Monday I went to do some community service and I made sure I had a hearty breakfast of steele cut oats, I took a pear, and some pistachios, had water, then we went out to eat afterwards and I got a bacon cheeseburger, season fries, and a pancake (yes just one I shared the other one with someone else)! My mind said you are at a diner go for it! SMH!

I am doing a daily gratitude post on Facebook and last week I posted about gaining four pounds in a week and I know why because I can’t do like everybody else the scale is quick with me! Likewise if I do right I don’t really plateau like other folks either.

So that is a good thing.

I know I didn’t mediate, journal my feelings, exercise, plan my meals, or do anything to lose or even maintain my weight so the four pounds was a reminder. A few days later I was back down on the scale by doing a handful of right things like journaling and exercising. I felt good about that!

Well its Tuesday and I feel like I am walking a tight rope. Every minute is a choice. And one of the things I learned which is very powerful is every right choice I make, makes me stronger in this journey. So its like working out the more cardio I do the better cardio endurance I have. My appetite and my mental fortitude, are like muscles so I have to keep strengthening them to win and lose weight consistently.

So today I had several mini victories
1)      Steele cut oats for breakfast
2)      An apple for a snack
3)      64 oz of water already
4)      A healthy lunch
5)      Fruit and pop chips over chocolate and hot buttery popcorn

I teach tonight but I would be so bad azz if I went to the gym after work! I am not sure if I have workout clothing in my car but I will check, and I will check back to let you know what I did!!!

I want to thank everyone for their support! I have gotten a few emails recently form readers and I appreciate the support so much! ;-)

Like I said its been crazy busy but here are a few pics of what I've been busy doing!!

Just call me Aspen Namaste Moon

It is almost 2013! That is amazing to me! I was sitting here having lunch a nice Pear and Feta Salad! I saw the reciepe in the Prevention Magazine this month so I grabbed a few small pears from the produce market and I already had some Feta from Trader Joe's and bagged salad so i tried it out. De-lish!!!
Anyway I was browsing online and came across the Whats Your Yogi name posting! For fun I figured mine out...Aspen Namaste Moon! It fits! LOL

I added Bikram Yoga back to my workouts for 2013 because a friend of my from high school mentioned he tried it after I talked about it and how hard it was but he stuck to it! I told him that was awesome!! But it made me think dang I ain't been in a minute myself! Even before surgery! Honestly I think I went to Fusion Yoga in Seattle and maybe one more class with my Sorors in the spring of 2012! Nada since!

2012 has been hectic but with all good things and I feel like 2013 the journey of wellness as I call it will fall more so into a spiritual context instead of it being so physical. So I think yoga is an excellent addition and main stay for my upcoming year.

With that being said yall know I love a party so I invited people to go with me, my sister, and my Mom last Sunday and two friends came! I know I have discussed Hot Yoga before but because I am a bad blogger I don't tag my post properly for easy locating. LOL Apologies!

Anyway, I went Sunday evening and this was unlike any other Hot Yoga class I have taken before. The instructor was very laid back, kinda casual and she just walked up to the front of class when it was time to start. Some introduce themselves, ask if anyone is new, give a mediation before opening up the practice, warn you about the fact that your mind will wander away, etc. Nope! Not her! She just hit the radio and started playing reggae music.

In all honesty I found that a little jarring lol I like the meditation type music. I mean I'm Jamaican reggae music is to party not meditate! LOL

The room is typically between 99 degrees and 105 degrees. So while your body is adjusting to the heat and all those thoughts about how hot it is now I am at war with my hips trying to groove to the beat!

The poses were not difficult and I was able to do most! I opted out of the head stand and back bend however.  :-)

While I was in class I thought about so many things I tried to keep my focus but my medition was one of prayer to God thanking him for health and life. So everything some random AKA thought or dating worry or greedy craving crossed my mind I drew my mind back to being grateful.

The instructor made a suggestion that when the thoughts comes, because they will, try to mentally wipe them away and clear your path again. Now I have sooo many thoughts so quickly gently wiping something away wasnt working for me. So I started to think about that video "Wipe Me Down" You have to sit through about 2 minutes to see the visual but it is worth it! LOL the first time I saw the video I thought it was genius the way the screen was wiped away so that's my new!

Bad thought? Wipe me Down! Negative self image? Wipe Me Down! Wandering mind when I need to be present? Whip Me Down! I see myself sliding the idea away quickly! And it is gone and it worked!

The Hot Yoga class was helpful to reset my mind and be aware of my mind's tendency to not be present. I started thinking about what I would eat after class? Will I take pictures? Did I answer that email? When is the next meeting? Did I wrap that gift? Just everywhere other than in that room. Life can be like that for us. Never fully appreciating where we are and being anxious about the next step which totally puts us in a place of being worried and that isn't good for the mind or body.

My goal is to do hot yoga every week. So just call me Aspen Namaste Moon!!!

I put an invitation out there to the Sorors in my Facebook workout group and 9 said they would come! That's awesome! Support is sooo important so is accountability! The likelihood that I will miss that workout is slim to none!

I was asked to be an accountability partner by a Soror and I told her we can hold each other accountable! I don't wake up happy and excited every day! And I guess I give that impression. I tend to begin my day with uplifting quotes and good thoughts to GET my mind my right! It doesn't come that way! Some assembly is REQUIRED!

That's why Weight Watchers and other groups work for me because we feed off each other. There is no way I can pull anyone along on this journey! We have to own it and hold each other up! So she understood and I told her to jump in the group and post her workouts! And she did! And so did I! I don't like to do stuff all willy nilly BUT I did not do a workout plan for the week so that helped me to focus! So what my week looks like!

Fri: Rest/Massage * Can't wait!
Sat: Kickboxing & Teadmill * 30 mins

Monday: Spin & Kickboxing
Tuesday: Spin & Treadmill *30

The BGR Little Black Dress Challenge!

I know I have been MIA for a longgg time! But I am back and I hoped yall missed me :-) Sadly I had a minor or what should have been a minor procedure that turned into a nightmare! Thank God I am ok and for the most part back to 100%

I hope you all have been well! I had a great Christmas with friends and family and I am looking forward to the new year! I hope you all had a great holiday too and are looking forward to all that 2013 has to offer! I had a really amazing 2012 and I am working on other aspects of my journey as I have often said this is a mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical journey.

I found a new church home. I am really excited about what I am learning and how I am growing at New Psalmist Baptist Church.

I won a big award I am very proud of that was given by The Daily Record. The award is called Leading Women and it identifies women age 40 or younger for the tremendous accomplishments they have made so far in their career. We were judged on professional experience, community involvement and a commitment to inspiring change.

Oh the health and fitness front I am feeling good. I had a great workout this week. I did everything from Spinning to Extreme Kickboxing to Swimming!! I know right!!!

I felt really inspired to jump back into my workouts because of the Black Girls Run: Baltimore~ Little Black Dress Challenge! So the group leader posted the idea of this challenge and I loved it!  The goal is to find a dress (either buy a goal dress or dig one out from your closet) that doesn't fit the way you would like it to right now and take picture of it (or you in it) and post it to the group and then we will have a "reveal" date in the spring to see how far we have come to reaching that goal! I have two nice black wrap dresses that kinda fit but if I could lose these 20 pounds they would be perfect!

So I got to making a Vision Board!!! So as you can see I plan to put in some WERK!!! I placed my goals on the board and so far so good! I have done 2/3 days of walk/jog run goal, I did Hot yoga on Sunday, I am drinking my water, praying daily and journaling more. I am getting on my clean eating and weight lifting next week.

My vision boards are like my children so I try not to pick favorites but I must say I realllllyyyyy love this board a lotttttttt!!!! :-)

Well its back to the lab a.k.a. the gym tonight I plan to do spinning and 30 minutes on the treadmill!

I packed my breakfast, lunch, and even snacks! Its only 10am and I already had 32 oz of water and I am working on my second serving! Oh and I am going to work on my new affirmations for 2013 based on the Joyce Meyer book "Change Your Words, Change Your Life"

Today is a good day!!! I'll check back soon!
